It’s highly uncommon to see a girl with a tambour today. However, Russia used to be famous for needlework: women were busy with embroidery in common peoples’ houses, in tsar’s and boyar workshops and in monasteries. Real experts embroidered with gold and pearls, they created luxurious clothes for tsars, grand people and the clergy. Today, this rare craft miraculously survived in Sofrino and Torzhok. The film will not only tell the spectator about it but will also tell a lot of interesting things from the history of ancient Russian clothes and customs and solemnities associated with them. A special attention is given to the creation of ceremonial clothes for the clergy. |
