The cycle tells about the history of Russian film music from first sound films up to the present day. The first film covers the period from 1925 to 1940, and the second, from 1940 to 1960.

Music in a film is not just an accompaniment for the action seen on the screen (though it used to be just like this in the early years of sound cinema and such an approach to it is dominating today), actually, it's a most important instrument good directors, together with good composers, can do miracles with.

The film will tell about the fates of famous Russian film composers. From S.S.Prokofyev, D.D.Shostakovich, I.O. Dunaevsky, T.N.Khrennikov, through a galaxy of the most prominent composers of the 1960s - 1980s such as A.Shnitke, E.Artemyev, I.Shwarz, A.Petrov, M.Tariverdiev, G.Gladkov, A.Rybnikov, L.Afanasyev, Y.Saulsky, etc., and to their today's successors, both loyal and not.
