Georg in General Release in Estonia

On 5 October 2007, the first performance of the Georg film took place in Tallinn (directed by Pieter Simm). The film is about the creative and personal fate of the famous Estonian singer Geor Ots (1920-1975) who was popular in the Soviet Union and abroad. The international project was implemented by film makers from Estonia (LEGE ARTIS FILM, ALLFILM), Finland (MATILA RÖHR PRODUCTIONS) and Russia (THE CENTRE OF NATIONAL FILM). Scriptwriters: Alexander Boroduansky (Russia) and Mati Pyldre (Estonia).

Georg was on with complete sell-outs in three cinema halls of Coca-Cola Plaza cinema theater in Tallinn at the same time and was appreciated by the audience.

The shooting for the film was carried out in Estonia, Finland and Russia. Thanks to the international actor team, in some episodes of the film the characters speak Russia, Finnish, Estonian and Latvian at the same time. The Estonian actor Marko Matvere is engaged as Georg Ots. The female lead (Asta, Georg’s wife) is played by Russian actress Anastasia Makeeva.

Georg is the most high-budget film after the time Estonia’s independence was restored. About two million euro was spent to make the film.

Estonia is the first of the three countries where the first performance of the film took place, then Georg will be shown in Finland, and on 6 March 2008 in Russia.
